Top Places to Visit in Abu Dhabi - Abu Dhabi Attractions

Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque

The beautiful Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is Abu Dhabi's landmark building. The mosque fuses Mameluke, Ottoman and Fatamid design elements to create a harmonious and thoroughly modern mosque that celebrates Islamic architecture. Artisans utilized glass-work, mosaic tiling and intricate carvings to spectacular effect on both the interior and exterior. It was opened in 2007 after nearly 20 years of construction.

Desert Safari

A trip to Abu Dhabi should include a visit to see the desert just outside the city, where some of the tallest sand dunes in the world loom against a bright blue sky. Watch people sand-board down the dunes or enjoy a ride weaving in utility vehicles up and down the dunes. Desert farms house racing camels, and Bedouin tents set up in the desert host barbecue dinners at night.

Ferrari World

The world’s first Ferrari-branded and largest indoor theme park is home to a winning mix of Ferrari inspired rides and attractions, the biggest Ferrari Store and a range of authentic Italian dining options, so there’s plenty of choice for the whole family!

Beneath its gigantic, iconic red roof it houses numerous high-adrenaline rides including the world’s fastest rollercoaster, Formula Rossa, with a top speed of 250kmph in 4.9 seconds, family-friendly attractions, state-of-the-art simulators, electric-powered go-karts, live shows and an inspiring treasure of racing memorabilia! Open 365 days a year, at Ferrari World Abu Dhabi the fun never stops as it offers a unique experience for visitors of every age in a refreshing, indoor, climate-controlled environment.

Heritage Village

Abu Dhabi's Heritage Village is an authentic replica of a typical Bedouin encampment that gives an idea of typical Emirati life before the oil boom. It's located in a pretty beach area of the city, which is a pleasant place to wander after a visit. Heritage Village is run by the Emirates Heritage Club and there are exhibits featuring traditional day-to-day objects, as well as introducing local agriculture and the pearl diving trade - the main economies here.

Liwa Oasis

Emirates Park Zoo

This excellent zoo makes for a fun day out, only a short drive from Abu Dhabi. There is a host of animals at the wildlife park, including rare white tigers, giraffes, and elephants. There is also a primate section with many different types of monkeys, and a flamingo park with a sea lion enclosure. At the petting zoo, children can touch and feed domestic breeds of animals.

Al Ain Oasis

In the heart of Al Ain, near Al Ain National Museum, this impressive oasis is filled with palm plantations, many of which are still working farms. The cool, shady walkways transport you from the heat and noise of the city to a tranquil haven; all you'll hear is birdsong and the rustle of the palm fronds.

The date palm oasis is one of a growing number of ecosystems that have been formally recognised by the United Nation’s Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) for their importance as repositories of genetic resources, biodiversity and cultural heritage.

HISTORY

In the past, the oasis was where the desert travelers or nomads hoped to find water and of course their own kind for any help that was needed. Oasis was where people set their livelihood simply because this is the one place where they were sure to find water and fertility in the land. The LIWA Oasis is located on the 100 Km off the south of Persian Gulf and shares its boundaries with Saudi Arabia as well as Abu Dhabi. For the locals, this oasis is the Southernmost settlement of Abu Dhabi. LIWA is not just any other oasis on the map. It houses more than 50 different villages. In fact, this oasis leaves an important and indelible mark on the geography of the beautiful city of Dubai. LIWA is the original home of royalty that rule the cities of the United Arab of Emirates. Yes! The present ruling family was originally based in LIWA and in 1973, they moved to the current capital, Abu Dhabi. Needless to say, traces of this royalty can be seen even today.

There was a time when the only connectivity to the oasis was through the rugged travel in the desert. But now times have improved. Today, you have state of the art multilane highways connecting the LIWA oasis to the important centres in Abu Dhabi. Therefore traveling to this part of the country is not at all difficult.

Therefore, a visit to Dubai is incomplete without going through the beautiful oasis of LIWA.

The thrill and sensation this rare part of the world produces are beyond comparison. And the fun of distinctly exploring the sandy land is as much en-route as after reaching here. In short, imagining a desert safari holiday with your family or loved ones, you just cannot omit Liwa from your itinerary.
